S ep 1 99 7 Perturbation analysis of weakly discrete kinks

چکیده
We present a perturbation theory of kink solutions of discrete Klein-Gordon chains. The un-perturbed solutions correspond to the kinks of the adjoint partial differential equation. The perturbation theory is based on a reformulation of the discrete chain problem into a partial differential equation with spatially modulated mass density. The first order corrections to the kink solutions are obtained analytically and are shown to agree with exact numerical results. We discuss the problem of calculating the Peierls-Nabarro barrier.

The symmetric dynamics of two kinks and one antikink in classical (1+1)dimensional φ theory is investigated. Gradient flow is used to construct a collective coordinate model of the system. The relationship between the discrete vibrational mode of a single kink, and the process of kink-antikink pair production is explored. ∗ e-mail address: [email protected] † e-mail address: M.Houari@d...

We give definitions for different types of moving spatially localized objects in discrete nonlinear lattices. We derive general analytical relations connecting frequency, velocity and localization length of moving discrete breathers and kinks in nonlinear one-dimensional lattices. Then we propose numerical algorithms to find these solutions.

Low-harmonic formulas for closed relativistic strings are given. General parametrizations are presented for the addition of second-and third-harmonic waves to the fundamental wave. The method of determination of the parametriza-tions is based upon a product representation found for the finite Fourier series of string motion in which the constraints are automatically satisfied. The construction ...

On the simple model of interacting massless and heavy scalar fields it is demonstrated that the technique of heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory reproduces the results of relativistic theory. Explicit calculations are performed for diagrams including two-loops.

We find that perturbation theory fails to describe the short range static potential as obtained from quenched lattice simulations, at least for source separations r > (6 GeV)−1. The difference between the nonperturbatively determined potential and perturbation theory at short distance is well parameterised by a linear term with a slope of approximately 1 GeV2, that is significantly bigger than ...
